BCWLA Course Levels for 2018-19

The Bucks County World Language Academy (BCWLA) is entering its sixth year with great enthusiasm as we continue to grow! Courses include:  *  Monthly thematic units    *  New information every year     *  Levels that advance every two years

(1st + 2nd year BCWLA students) -- SP Adventures

  • Introductory course that covers basic Spanish vocabulary and novice dialogue
  • Thematic units review topics such as family, school, routines, food and animals.

(3rd + 4th year BCWLA students) -- SP Explorers

  • More role-play scenarios and student-led activities; students begin digital projects
  • Thematic units explore world cultures in further detail; additional authentic resources

(5th + 6th  year BCWLA students) -- SP Storytelling

  • Grammar through context; students advance their reading & writing skills in target language
  • Students use foreign language knowledge to form local & global community connections
  • Thematic units encourage learners’ creativity to shine through project-based activities

BCWLA curriculum is focused on the five “C”s (above) and follows national standards as defined by organizations such as ACTFL (American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages): https://www.actfl.org/sites/default/files/publications/standards/World-ReadinessStandardsforLearningLanguages.pdf

Core structures and vocabulary are recycled throughout all levels of the BCWLA curriculum.

In addition to classroom materials and workbooks, families also have access to the following:

* Online Teacher’s Site …… Resources to practice Spanish at home (videos, songs, documents, etc).

* BCWLA Library …………… Over 150 Spanish & Bilingual books for elementary students!

Note: All classes may not be available at every school, as it depends on the number of students who enroll.

Classes will be confirmed in the summer; if a class is cancelled, all tuition paid will be fully refunded.
